VIETNAM ACCOMMODATION INDUSTRY

Over the last decade, tourism has become more and more affordable to people. In terms of regions, Europe is the largest tourist market, welcoming xxx.x million international arrivals by 2016, accounting for more than half of the market share (50.2%). The global market size for accommodation industry continues to grow during the period 2014-2016 with a CAGR of 9.84% and about xxx.xx billion in 2016.

In 2017, the accommodation industry grew by 2.5% and is forecast to grow by 3.7% in 2018. In 2017, the total investment in the world's accommodation industry will be about USD xx.x billion, increased nearly 0.5% compared to 2016. In which the Asia-Pacific region has the strongest increase of USD x.x billion compared to 2016. In 2018, investment in accommodation industry is predicted to decline slightly and is expected to reach USD xx billion due to a lack of suitable assets along with stringent requirements that could cause the real estate market to fall from 5% to 10%. The number of hotel rooms and guest rooms in the world tends to grow continuously over the period 2014 to 2025f. At present, there are over 700,000 hotels and resorts scattering across the world.

In 2026, the growth rate of the tourism and travel industry will still be maintained well thanks to the positive outlook of the world economy. It is forecast to directly contribute about USD x, xxx billion to world GDP, generating 135.88 million direct jobs, the value of exports from international visitors is about USD x, xxx billion, capital investment in the industry is about x,xxx.x billion. The growth of tourism and travel industry will be the main driving force for the development of the world's accommodation industry. Therefore, in the future, the accommodation industry is expected to have positive prospects.

Vietnam is one of the fastest growing travel destinations in Southeast Asia. Tourism industry revenue in the first 3 months was estimated at over VND xxx trillion. Revenue from tourism and travel in Q1/2018 was estimated at over VND xx trillion, up 30.3% over the same period last year. Ho Chi Minh City's revenue increased the most with 32.3%. China had the highest number of visitors to Vietnam in the first three months of 2018 with 1.36 million visitors, accounted for 32.2% of total international visitors to Vietnam.

Revenue from accommodation industry in 2016 reached xx,xxx billion, up 12.17% compared to 2015, growth rate was slower than 2015. The development of tourism industry is one of incentives that encouraging number of accommodations to rise. By the end of 2017, the number of accommodation establishments nationwide reached xx.x thousand, up 21.9% over 2016. Average hotel room rates from 4 stars in 2016 increased slightly, lower than in 2015, reaching USD xx.x/room/night, up 1.26% over 2015. In the first three months of 2018, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City were two major markets remaining stable compared to the end of 2017 in terms of supplying, capacity as well as rental rates.
